New train route from China to Port of Barcelona will enhance trade relations

A port authority executive has stated that a new train route connecting China's Shanxi province with the Port of Barcelona is expected to enhance trade relations with the Asian nation. The inaugural goods train from Shanxi to Barcelona completed its journey in 35 days, traversing over 12,000 km and arriving at the port's facilities at April's end.

Since its inception in 2017, the China-Europe Railway Express from Shanxi has consistently operated 16 routes, connecting over 40 cities across 15 countries and deploying a total of 782 trains. Carla Salvado, deputy general manager of Commercial and Marketing at the Port of Barcelona, emphasized the strategic significance of Barcelona as a gateway to Europe and a distribution hub in the Mediterranean. TPNova, a leading Spanish transport company, will manage the new goods service on behalf of the Huayuan Chinese business group. This service marks the commencement of the agreement signed in Barcelona in November between Spanish and Chinese companies.

The China-Europe Railway Express has linked 112 cities within China, traversed over 100 cities in 11 Asian countries and regions, and reached more than 200 cities in 25 European countries and regions, highlighting its role in the Belt and Road initiative. "China is our strongest trading partner...we're very happy to appear on the map of the New Silk Road," Salvado stated, viewing the train service as a valuable addition to the port's existing logistical capabilities.
