The European Parliament has sanctioned an extension for the trade liberalization between the European Union and Moldova for an additional year. This decision enables the continuation of tariff-free exports for seven Moldovan agricultural products, specifically tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, sweet cherries, plums, and grape juice. Siegfried Muresan, a member of the European Parliament, emphasized the unity and swift support for Moldova, highlighting the initiative's role in facilitating Moldova's European integration and mitigating the adverse effects of the conflict in Ukraine on Moldovan producers and exporters.
"We see that Moldova is becoming integrated into the European Union more and more," Muresan remarked, noting the European market's appreciation for Moldovan produce. Dumitru Alaiba, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, interpreted the European Parliament's decision as a testament to the EU's ongoing support for Moldova, presenting a nice opportunity for Moldovan entrepreneurs. With the current export regime set to expire on 24 July 2024, this extension marks a continuation of the policy first enacted on 25 July 2022.
