This week marks the start of the Flavor of the Year watermelon season for Anteus Fruits, which should last until the end of July. This watermelon is eagerly-awaited on the German market, and it will certainly win the hearts of the French. "Our Anteus watermelon is unanimously acclaimed. Once end customers have tasted it, they come back for more. It already has a good reputation in Germany, and we now want to introduce it to the French, who will not be disappointed," according to Patrick Brun, head of Anteus Fruits.
Quality is the spearhead of Anteus watermelons
The brand itself "could almost become a label, as it identifies so much with a guarantee of quality. We have always made a point of offering products that excel in terms of quality, both in taste and in the way they are produced. Our watermelons come from sustainable agriculture, and we pay particular attention to water resources. We have all the relevant certifications, and we are one of the few on the market to have obtained the SPRING certification, which emphasizes the virtuous use of water. To ensure the highest standards of quality, we have chosen terroirs that bring out the full taste potential of our watermelons. We always select them rigorously and we only cut them when they are ripe." Anteus watermelons have been awarded the Flavor of the Year label for 4 consecutive years.
An ambition to grow
This quest for quality takes precedence over the development of production, despite a clear ambition to grow. "Today, we produce 10,000 tons of watermelons on 300 hectares in Morocco, in the Zagora, Taroudante and Marrakech regions. We are in a development phase in terms of production and marketing, and we have more than enough to supply the French market. We know that our Anteus watermelons have all the qualities required to establish themselves on a long-term basis in France, just like in Germany. But we will only increase production if we can maintain our top quality. This is our biggest challenge today."
