Low cabbage supply in Port Moresby

Port Moresby has seen a low supply of cabbage this week. Post-Courier Online conducted its market survey to six major markets in the city and noticed that cabbage was missing on tables for most of the markets. The major market visited were Gordon, Boroko, Kipo (China Town), Manu, Waigani and Rainbow.

At Gordon market, only one trader was seen selling the last of her cabbage for K12. At Boroko market, only one was selling cabbage for K10 while Waigani. Rainbow, Kipo (China Town) and Manu had no Cabbage on the tables. The sellers told us that cabbage ran out in the city and the new supply has not been shipped into the city yet. According to the sellers, the new shipment comes into Port Moresby every Thursday.

When there is a delay, this also affects the supply and that is when we see no cabbages on the tables. The sellers also said cabbage is expected to be back on the tables by today or tomorrow Saturday.

Prices for green bananas on the other hand, vary. At Boroko market, the price went as low as K2 and K1 for a bunch. For potatoes, supply is low compared to last week, but the price remains at K5 for nine potatoes at all markets. At Boroko market, more potatoes are seen on the tables compared to other markets.

[ K1 = €0.24 ]
