EU: The benefits of fruit & vegetables explained to 3 million people

Positive results have been notched up over the first year of the project coordinated by Alimos aimed at providing information on the safety and healthiness of European fruit & vegetable produce to Italian, French and German consumers (Cesena, 22 January 2013). Three million shoppers were reached in over 800 sales points in Italy, France and Germany.

Co-financed by the EU, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Alimos, the project's goal is to reassure and inform consumers in Italy, France and Germany in relation to the safety and quality of EU market garden products and their traceability throughout the entire production process, at the same time promoting consumption and encouraging a healthy and balanced diet that's also extremely tasty.

Between November 2012 and January 2013, the project implemented an information campaign in shops, supermarkets and commercial refreshment outlets. This involved mounting ad hoc display spaces with promotional leaflets and distributing various info material including a useful and attractive fruit & vegetable calendar that helps consumers remember the natural seasonality of numerous products, encouraging them to enjoy Nature's creations when their taste is at its very best.

Special emphasis has also been placed on transmitting the principal nutritional properties of 24 products: 12 types of fruit and 12 types of vegetable, one for each month of the year. This information is also available online.

Alimos, project initiator and organiser, is a cooperative company which for over forty years now has been committed to safeguarding consumers' health and the environment. Alimos members taking part in the Project include some of Italy's leading producers, with avant-garde quality and certification systems: Alegra, Apofruit Italia, Conor, Naturitalia and Orogel Fresco.
