The area dedicated to selection, processing and packaging is supplied with specific equipment for the processing of cherries and table grapes, which are collected from commercial farms in various areas of Puglia providing early and late varieties. Altogether, the commercial farms occupy approximately 100 acres (60% table grapes and 40% cherries).
What makes a difference in Tateo is the continuous research carried out in order to improve cultivating techniques so as to obtain products that respect certain quality standards. The company stands out at a national and international level thanks to the quality of the produce from Puglia and can pack it according to any need the client might have.
"The first variety available in our gardens is Bigarreaux. This year, early cherries will be big and of excellent quality as the quantity on trees is not excessive." As regards the Turi area, Ignazio expects harvesting to start around 15th May, followed by the other varieties. The markets for Tateo cherries are mainly Italian, whereas abroad they are mainly focused on Germany.

"The last cold snap burned much of the produce (photo on the side) right from the first buds. Because of this, the quality and the size of Bigarreaux cherries are excellent. Lower production will lead to bigger grades."
"This lower yield though regards only the first week of harvesting, and it will be 40% less than last year's first week. The produce won't be as much but the quality will be good. In the following week, we will go on with a good harvesting, in line with the previous campaign."
The Ferrovia variety will compensate for the lack of Bigarreaux cherries.
Tateo Srl has decided to certify its productive process relying on competent and skilled external partners in order to optimise management, improve the company's image and credibility, promote its products on the market and favour agreements along the chain.

We have always put clients at the centre of every activity. The 10 virtues to follow to obtain the best are ambition, humility, continuous improvement, method and discipline, determination, self-control, patience, honesty and transparency, team work and concreteness."
New investments for new cherry plants.
As regards packaging, this year the Tateo company will have conditioning lines, cherry graders and automatic discarders available , that is to say a range of machines that will limit the need to pack by hand, making the order processing quicker so more orders can be accepted, competitive on the market in terms of prices and cheaper.
