Pakistan announce new melon variety

A new variety of mango titled "new sindheri" has been developed by the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF). Presently, it is undergoing various tests including shelf life in a model reefer container.

The new variety was shown by Dr Asif Ali, Director, Research, Innovation and Commercialisation, UAF to the two-member delegation of All Pakistan Fruit & Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA), headed by Chairman, Waheed Ahmed and Secretary General, Mohammad Ilyas Khan during their recent visit to UAF.

In light of the work being done by UAF in the field of Research and Development, PFVA announced that it would bear expenses of one student perusing his PhD programme at UAF to subsequently serve the industry in the field of fruits and vegetables. It would also extend internships to students of UAF in future and graduates would be extended employment opportunity in the PFVA. The UAF would workout salary package as per market conditions.
