1,230 hectares of banana plantations damaged by windstorms in the Canary Islands

On 23 and 24 January, strong winds hit the Canarian Archipelago, causing damages in more than 1,230 hectares of insured banana plantations, according to sources from Agroseguro. Other crops, such as pineapples, avocados, vegetables or citrus, have also been affected to a lower extent. Damages were also registered in greenhouses and windbreak walls.

During the month of January, the Canary Islands suffered frequent winds of up to 100 km/h. The most affected islands were La Palma, La Gomera and Tenerife.

Since 3 February, twenty-two insurance experts have been carrying out damage assessments in order to offer quick responses to all those issuing damage claims
