Mexico: The price of limes dropped by 42% in a week
The Secretariat of Economy announced that the price of limes in the Central de Abasto, in the Federal District, had drastically dropped in the last fortnight, to the point that it dropped 42.77% in one week.
Starting last Sunday, popular and traditional markets sold the citrus at 15 pesos per kilo, on Saturday it was still being traded at 50 pesos.
In several stores, seedless limes are being sold at 28.90 pesos and the limes from Colima at 19.90 pesos.
According to the Comprehensive Market Information System (SIIM), the price of limes with seeds, class three, dropped in the last week of March by 21.05%, while the class four limes dropped by 8.64 %, and the class five dropped by 13.80%.
Only the seedless limes price increased during this time frame; by 13.91%.
However, in the first week of April, the prices of all of the different lime varieties decreased in the Central de Abasto.
