Turkey has best cherry harvest of last 20 years

Turkey's cherry sector is having a very good season. The fruit is very good and market prices in the 15 countries to which they export cherries average 6.9 Euro per kilo.

Manisa, one of the growing areas, has an average area of 2,000 hectares dedicated to the crop and houses some 1,000 cherry producers. Last year's campaign was very poor because of the frost and exports amounted to 30,000 tons. This year, as there were no frosts, the production is abundant and expectations are it will be very good.

Additionally, producers are making use of good agricultural habits so that their products are free of pesticide residues and, according to the Cherry Growers Association of Manisa, their fruit is gaining international recognition. This year's exports are expected to amount to 60,000 tons.
