Turkey: 53% of fruit and vegetable exports shipped to Russia
According to information supplied by Turkey's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association, 53% of the country's vegetable exports are shipped to Russia.
In the period between January and September, Turkey exported a total of 916,292 tonnes of vegetables; 1% more than in the same period of 2013, when 907,238 tonnes were shipped. The revenue from exports also increased by 5%, to $ 554 million 228 thousand.
Tomatoes were the most important product, representing 54% of the exports in terms of volume and 65% in terms of value.
During the first nine months of last year 385,887 tonnes of tomatoes were exported; a volume that has increased by 28% in the same period this year, reaching 493,795 tons. The revenue generated from these shipments increased by 14%, reaching $ 357 million 772 thousand.
Peppers, with 63 million 102 thousand dollars; cucumbers, with 38 million 124 thousand dollars; onions, with 33 million 751 thousand dollars and courgettes, with 25 million 216 thousand dollars followed.
53 percent of exports to Russia
During the period at hand, 53% of Turkey's exports in terms of value went to Russia, which remains its main destination.
Between January and September 2014, sales of fresh vegetables to Russia increased by 30% and reached 413,602 tons, with a 9% increase in the revenue generated, which amounted to 292 million 217 thousand dollars.
Behind Russia, the most important markets are Bulgaria, with 34 million 517 thousand dollars; Germany, with 33 million 912 thousand dollars; Ukraine, with 28 million 976 thousand dollars and Romania, with 27 million 545 thousand dollars.
