Yemen and Egypt aim for increased fruit and veg trade

The Yemeni Ambassador in Egypt, Mohamed Alheisama, met this week in Cairo with the Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Dr Adel El-Beltagy, to study the possibilities of increasing cooperation between Yemen and Egypt in the fields of export and import of agricultural products between the two countries.

The meeting addressed possible ways to take advantage of the different production and export seasons for fruit and vegetables which result from their different climates, allowing both countries to have access to various crops during their off-season.

The need to form a committee of experts to control regulations on quality and phytosanitary standards, as well as pest prevention issues, was also discussed.
