Greek fruit exports up 37% in five years
In the difficult period between 2009 and 2014, Greek fruit exports have increased by 30% in value and by 37% in volume.
This data were presented by Deputy Minister of Production and Reconstruction, Mr Vangelis Apostolou, speaking at the 1st International Exhibition of Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Freskon, held in Thessaloniki.
"The agro-food sector is a key driver for economic and social recovery in Greece. That's because it is the sector that benefits from the wealth of our country's natural resources, biodiversity and the suitability of soil and climatic conditions for the production of a wide range of quality products, such as fruits and vegetables," stated Mr Apostolou.
As pointed out by the Deputy Minister, the Government aims to boost entrepreneurship and promote the excellent quality of Greek products, with a particular emphasis on environmentally-friendly production methods. "Our strategic choice is the identification and promotion of Greek agricultural products, supporting both the production process and entrepreneurship and their presence in the international market," concluded Mr Apostolou.
