Affinitus, the company behind the innovative Freshware and Agrilogik software systems, will be appearing at this year’s National Fruit Show to highlight how its real-time technology is helping suppliers improve profitability, efficiencies and traceability.
The company will be on hand at the event, which takes place at Maidstone’s Kent Showground from 19-20 October, to explain about systems that remove to need to consult historical data, while improving the visibility of stock and monitoring of sales orders.
Over the last 12 months, Affinitus has worked with leading fruit packers that supply major supermarkets to put in place technology that enables them to benefit from real-time information on virtual dashboards, which also deliver more effective traceability.
Real-time solutions
Affinitus’ Malcolm Williams explained that Freshware and Agrilogik integrate hand-held wifi Android technology, meaning – provided there is wifi coverage – stock checks, warehouse transfers, production runs, picking and more can be carried out anywhere in the environment.
“We’re helping companies in areas where they have been struggling,” he said. “With a lot of companies, everything is done manually – they fill out a production sheet manually, then someone has to go back afterwards and work out what stock has been used, what is left.
“With us, it’s all real time. The information is logged instantaneously through a hand-held device. As soon as a production run has finished, companies can see how much stock is there and how much profit has been made straight away.”
Effective traceability
Williams said the systems had also been significant in helping companies achieve greater traceability, enabling users to track exactly which stock came from which grower, through depot and dispatch, and delivery to the end consumer.
“Supermarkets make a big issue of traceability – if you’ve ever been in a factory and they do a BRC audit, traceability is one of the primary things,” he explained.
“One of the big issues was companies never knew exactly what stock went where because once you pack stock, it could go anywhere. With us, because we track the raw material from the production run, we know which depot it goes to and can track it right back to the grower.”
Affinitus will be exhibiting at Kent Showground’s Maidstone Pavilion, stand S62 from 19-20 October.
