Fewer Moroccan tomatoes imported by EU in weeks 48 and 49

The volume of tomatoes that Morocco has shipped to the European Union (EU) in weeks 48 and 49 (from 28 November to 11 December) has dropped by 13 percent compared to the same period of the previous season, according to the information supplied by the Prices and Markets Observatory of the Government of Andalusia.

In that period, the volume of tomatoes that Morocco has sold to the EU has reached 18.45 million kilos, with an average price of 0.93 Euro per kilo.

As for the global results of the campaign, the total volume of tomatoes exported by Morocco to the EU until 11 December has amounted to 55.02 million kilos, 5 percent less than in the previous season.

The reduction of the volume exported by Morocco in this period has resulted in a significant appreciation in the markets of the long-life variety, which is, together with the cherry, the main tomato variety cultivated in Morocco.
