Supports meeting Foreign Supplier Verification Program standards

Traceability down to the pallet level

“Last January, we launched our ColdTrak Import-Export Traceability Solution, a full-service system that links products to traceability data,” says Frederick Wu, President and CEO of DeltaTrak. “It gives visibility down to local distribution at the pallet level,” he added. The FlashLink USB PDF In-Transit Logger (data logger) is one part of DeltaTrak’s ColdTrak Import-Export Traceability Solution. It is used to determine if problems occur in the cold chain, and verify that products were handled under proper temperature condition from supplier to the port of entry. The data logger works for any temperature sensitive commodity, which includes fresh as well as processed produce, e.g. fresh-cut bagged salad or frozen produce.

Placed inside a container
The data logger provides time/temperature data from the time it was activated when the container is loaded in the country of origin until the logger is downloaded when it arrives in the destination country. “The data logger is placed about 1/3 of the way inside a container, above the load line and typically adhered to the top box of a pallet. It is important that it is not in direct flow of cold air,” mentioned Wu. A standard shipping container typically has at least two data loggers, but some receivers might request three.

ThermoTrace Time-Temperature Indicator (TTI) barcode label
In addition to temperature loggers, DeltaTrak’s ColdTrak Import-Export Traceability Solution integrates a ThermoTrace TTI barcode label on each pallet within the container. The ThermoTrace TTI barcode label allows for achieving traceability during local distribution after the shipment arrives in the destination country. “After arrival, the ThermoTrace TTI label can be scanned with any smart device that has the free app downloaded by the user,” shared Wu. This provides the receivers with a PDF of the temperature history report from the data logger, as well as import/export documents associated with the shipment. Examples are Import/Export Permits, inspection certificates, Phytosanitary Certificate, certificates of authenticity, and any other compliance document the supplier needs to share with the receiver.

“The ColdTrak Import/Export Traceability Solution is an economical way to audit the supply chain and provide documentation that is important for regulatory agencies,” added Wu. “It supports US food importers in meeting all Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) standards and guidelines that are set by the FDA and other agencies.”
