Mexico: Colima could export mangoes to Russia
Jose Anguiano Negrete, a mango exporter, said that the United States was their main market. However, he added, "we are also opening new markets. Some mangoes go to Korea and on April 15 we will send samples of Tommy mangoes and papayas to Russia by plane, as many planes arrive in Cancun and return empty. We have to take advantage of this. We can't send large shipments at the moment because we have to start by sending samples first."
Anguiano Negrete, who is also the owner of the Chula Vista packing house, said that Colima sent its agricultural products to more than 20 countries. "This is very important because it's something we didn't use to do, and it really has helped the companies that produce a lot of plantain and export it."
"Everybody likes tropical fruits, so Mexico currently sends a lot of bananas to Korea because the markets are opening up. There is a very close relationship with Russia, and if politicians paid more attention Mexico could become a powerful player in the fruit sector. We should really take advantage of this, but we depend on the authorities," he added.
