Cherry exports on the verge of a record for Turkey

According to information received from the Exporters Association, cherry exports are on the verge of breaking a record, showing a 184% increase from 19 million USD to 54 million USD so far this season. The increase in volume was at 165 % from 7,700 tons to 20,400 tons. These numbers are expected to continue to reach the highest cherry export numbers of all-time for Turkey.

The previous high occurred in 2016 with 78,700 tons and a turnover of 183 million USD. The only risk appears to be hailstorms which could create shortages in the supply. Exporters say that if growers can avoid the hailstorm risk without significant production losses, Turkey can reach an export volume of 85,000 for the season. This will mark a dramatic increase from last year’s figure of 65,000 tons. The target turnover is estimated to be around 200 million USD.
