Poland: Volume of apples in storage one of the lowest in five years
At the beginning of June this year, Poland had a very small volume of apples in storage, as reported by analysts of EastFruit citing updated data from the World Association of Pears and Apples (WAPA).
According to the latest reports of this association, as of 1 June, 2018, there were 92 thousand tonnes of apples in storage in Poland, which is 36% less than in the same date a year earlier.
It should be noted that almost half of the volumes in storage at the beginning of summer were apples of the variety Idared. According to WAPA, Poland had about 40 thousand tonnes of these fruits in storage, which is one third less than a year ago.
The second and third places were for the varieties Golden Delicious and Gloster, with shares of 22% and 13%, respectively. So, at the beginning of summer, about 20 thousand tonnes of Golden Delicious apples and about 12 thousand tonnes of Gloster apples were in storage in Poland. The stock of the Golden Delicious was 13% lower than in the same date in 2017, while the stocks of Gloster apples were actually similar to those of the previous year.
