The Guanxi honey pomelo is not yet on the market because the flavor is not yet at its best. This year the honey pomelo ripened half a month later than last year. In the period before they enter the market, traders from Pinghe normally deal in pomelo from other areas (Hainan pomelo in July, and pomelo from Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian in August). However, this year the flavor of the pomelo from Guangdong and Guangxi is still below standard and the first half of August is already over.
Pinghe usually begins to supply small volumes of pomelo in the second half of July, but none of the honey pomelo were suitable for the market in the second half of July. The price of Banpeiyu pomelo from Guangdong is around 1.3 yuan [0.18 USD] per 0.5 kg, while the price of grapefruit is around 1.9 yuan [0.27 USD] per 0.5 kg.
The exact price in Hainan is difficult to establish because traders in the market are currently giving feedback on product quality. Some of the counties near Pinghe, such as Hua'an and Yunxiao, have begun to harvest small volumes of pomelo. They mainly supply for overseas trade.
