IFCO, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, a big player in the reusable packaging container (RPC) industry, has announced plans to initiate a $4.5 million project for a new warehouse in Mesquite. This project, described as a "new tenant improvement," involves a 240,000-square-foot facility located on Military Parkway. Construction is set to commence in May, with completion anticipated by September.
IFCO's RPCs are integral to the fresh grocery supply chain, offering over 70 models designed for a variety of products including fruits, vegetables, meats, and more. These containers are part of a broader initiative to combat the environmental impact of single-use packaging, which significantly contributes to global waste.
According to an IFCO statement, some 400 million tons of plastic waste are generated annually, with a substantial percentage ending in landfills and natural environments. The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) has highlighted the urgent need for actions to mitigate this issue, suggesting that a comprehensive approach towards reducing single-use packaging and promoting reusable alternatives could significantly decrease plastic pollution by 2040. IFCO collaborates with numerous retail partners, such as Walmart and Whole Foods, and operates additional offices across the United States, employing over 1,755 individuals globally.
