"Production for Polish cabbage will be quite high this season"

In Poland, one of the first vegetables that come into season during the spring is the white cabbage. The cultivation for cabbages has been rather good, thanks to the weather having a positive effect, says Kornelia Lewikowska, purchasing manager for Polish vegetable exporter Green Best: "The growing period for white cabbages in Poland actually went quite well this season. We were happy to see rather heavy rainfalls during the winter, which meant that we didn't experience any drought in the spring period."

Not only the winter had the correct weather conditions, according to Lewikowska this trend continued during the spring. And as weather has been positive, this has led to high production for the cabbages in Poland. "When looking at the production for white cabbage this year, the volumes will be rather high. The weather has been good, which has resulted in the growing season speeding up. The main challenges are, as always at the beginning of the season, to balance the price of the cabbage. This way, producers will be satisfied, but we're also still competitive on the market."

"For the Polish domestic market, demand for cabbages is currently increasing. We can see that large retail chains in Poland are buying large quantities of the cabbages. Slowly, other countries are starting to become interested in Polish goods in general, which is a positive development. The new crop of white cabbage is one of the first fresh vegetables available once it becomes spring, so it is in high demand. And as every year, I have hoped that after selling our white cabbages, we'll have a smooth transition into the new cauliflower season," Lewikowska concludes.
