Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has initiated an inquiry into a rapidly spreading apple disease in Himachal Pradesh, India. The investigation involves Nauni horticulture and forestry university, targeting a situation affecting the Rs 4,500 crore (US$540 million) apple sector. Expert teams are being mobilized to pinpoint and manage the problem to facilitate timely state intervention.
Post discussions with apple growers, Chief Minister Sukhu pledged government assistance. The issue, resulting in premature leaf yellowing and fall, presents yield and financial challenges for farmers.
In response, the Vice Chancellor of Y S Parmar University has been directed to send expert teams to the impacted orchards. A detailed report is expected within seven days, aiming to expedite government actions to mitigate economic repercussions on apple growers.
