UK: Sainsbury’s offers British kiwiberries

Sainsbury's has become the first UK retailer to offoer British grown kiwiberries.

The berries, which are being cultivated in Herefordshire, will be available in 125g packs, priced at £2.75 at ten select stores in Hereford and the South West.

The fruit is usually grown in Italy, the Netherlands, South America and New Zealand.

Sainsbury’s said, "We're always looking at new ways to grow more fruit on home soil which is a good thing for British farmers as well as our customers. We anticipate this local launch of British kiwiberries to come as a great addition of fresh quality produce available in store." The group added, "We hope to work closely with the grower to produce a larger crop in the future."
