ASAJA-Almeria has been able to confirm that the citrus and vegetable plantations in the East are the most affected crops, as well as olive and almond trees to a lesser extent. Damages caused to livestock farms are also noteworthy, particularly in those with pigs, which are mainly located in the towns of Huércal-Overa and Pulpí. This is also the area with the largest pig population in Andalusia.
In other agricultural areas, such as Los Vélez, Campo de Nijar and Poniente la lluvia, rains have not been as strong and have helped alleviating the severe drought that the area has been suffering. In the East, however, open ground crops, such as lettuce and other vegetables have been severely affected.
ASAJA-Almeria is advising affected growers and farmers to contact the organisation's technical services to evaluate their damages and assist them with the elaboration of technical and damage reports.
