Ireland: GM potatoes blight free

The first genetically modified potatoes sown in the recent controversial trial have been confirmed as being free of blight.

Teagasc researchers, however, have cautioned that it is early days in the four year trial.

"The GM plants are showing no signs of blight and growing quite well," a spokesman for Teagasc confirmed.

Six days after the plants were sown outdoors, blight was discovered and had progressed through the non-GM plants.
