Russia: WorldFood Moscow welcomes record number of exhibitors

The 21st edition of WorldFood Moscow took place on 17-20 September 2012, Expocentre, Moscow and welcomed a record number of exhibitors to Russia’s largest international food and drink exhibition. 1,602 exhibitors from 69 countries participated over the four days to increase their business and learn more about the expanding Russian market.

This year, Portugal, Finland, Jordan, Korea, Taiwan, Moldova, Bulgarian Dairy Association and Brazil joined the exhibition for the first time. The India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) returned to the exhibition and Iran vastly increased the size of their stand. There was also an Australian participation in the Seafood pavilion for the first time, from Indian Ocean Rock Lobster.

This year, Thailand was the Partner Country for the exhibition. 20 companies participated as part of the Thailand pavilion, to showcase the wide variety of popular Thai cuisine from canned pineapples, to brown rice milk, to energy drinks. The Chilean Fresh Fruit Association was the sponsor of the Fruit and Vegetable sector.

An educational and comprehensive business programme also took place alongside the exhibition, which included Product of the Year, the Retail Centre, the Food Forum and New Product Showcase. As part of the Food Forum, a Citrus Conference took place for the first time with discussions on how to introduce citrus products into the Russian market, the level of market awareness, and price and volume movements.
Tony Higginson, Head of Sales, ITE Group plc, said, “WorldFood Moscow has proven itself once again to be the place to exhibit at to access the Russian food and drink market. Exhibitors can conduct business negotiations and build up their number of high profile contacts over four days, which will hopefully lead to new contracts and business in the Russian market.”

Peter White, Market Linkage Specialist, DAI, Moldova, explained, “The show is going really well, we have good visibility and a good client turnout. Moldova is very rich on fruit and vegetable and this is a platform for us to meet more customers. The Russian market is a growing market for us”.

Nasser Shaikh, Director, Sales and Marketing (Exports) Allanasons, commented, “We are focusing on the meat market in Russia. I am happy I have participated, and I am looking forward to the 2nd and 3rd days at the exhibition. This is our 2nd year here and we have reserved the space for next year too.”
