US: Sandy slows Florida fresh citrus sales
Dan Richey, president of Riverfront Groves believes the impact will only be short term, but Philadelphia, Boston and New York make up 35 to 45% of Florida's total citrus sales domestically.
"People are buying canned foods to get through without electricity, not grapefruit and oranges. There’s a backup of our product in inventory," Richey said. "The retailer orders with the assumption they will have to replenish. Now they don’t have to."
