Australian citrus growers warned over greening
Mike Irey, from the US Sugar Corporation in Florida, says the disease has devastated the local citrus industry.
"Once it's found, you can't hesitate, you have to act quickly," he said.
This year, the University of Florida revealed the disease had cost the local economy $3.5 billion.
Andrew Beattie, from the University of Western Sydney, has been investigating the spread of citrus greening in Asia.
He says growers in Australia should be very worried.
"If it gets in here, the cost of control will be very, very high," he said.
"With the stresses on the industry now, it's unlikely that farmers will be able to afford to control the disease and the psyllid effectively."
