Kazakhstan imports most fruit from China and Kyrgyzstan

China and Kyrgyzstan rank among the top 3 countries to import fruit to Kazakhstan, according to the countries Customs Control Committee.

A record amount of apples, pears and garden strawberry have been sent to the neighboring republic in 2012. It was specified that "almost a half of pears are imported from Kyrgyzstan - 6.7 thousand tons. Import of pears from Kyrgyzstan exceeded $2.7 million. The second-largest importer is the Netherlands with 2.5 thousand tons. The third position was taken by China - 1.5 thousand tons.” It was noted that the Chinese pears are more expensive than the Kyrgyz by 83.6 percent.

Kyrgyzstan also supplies the Kazakhs with strawberry. For the last 10 months, more than 87 percent of strawberries were imported to the country from Kyrgyzstan - 975 tons. The site also reports that every second apricot in Kazakhstan was brought from Kyrgyzstan as supply of apricots from Kyrgyzstan in January-October 2012 exceeded 17.2 thousand tons.
