Chile: Blueberry export slowed by rain

Chilean blueberry harvest has been affected by rains in the Southern regions last week. An increase in the amount of discarded fruit has had a downward effect on export volumes.

The South Central region was similarly affected. Brightwell variety harvest is now over, though there are still small volumes of Tifblue to be picked.

Shipments had been expected to drop as peak harvest was over anyway, but the fall to 3,100 means the downward trend was steeper than anticipated. itis now thought that this accelerated fall will continue as more rain is projected.

Only 2,000 tonnes are expected to be shipped this week.

To date export volumes have outpaced both expectations and last season's figures. So far shipments have totalled 71,900 tonnes, compared to 71,900 in 2012.
