In the last year, 9,000 tonnes of blueberries were harvested in Germany. This makes these the most harvested bush berries in this country. After them came the blackberries with a harvest of almost 4,500 tonnes, and raspberries with a harvest of almost 3,800 tonnes. In the whole of Germany almost 28,000 tonnes of bush berries were harvested in 2012.
Most bush berries were harvested in Lower Saxony (8,400 tonnes), Baden-Württemberg (7,900 tonnes) and Nordrhein-Westfalen (3,500 tonnes). The largest harvest amount of blueberries was in Lower Saxony with almost 6,700 tonnes.
In Germany around 1,200 agricultural companies grow bush berries on a total surface of 6,800 hectares. Most companies are located in Baden-Wúrttemberg (456 companies), followed by Lower Saxony (218 companies), Nordrhein-Westfalen (136 companies) and Bavaria (128 companies). Around 9% of the German bush berry harvest comes from companies that grow completely organically.
