Climate change has taken a toll on Peruvian limes, as a reduction of about 40% in production volumes has been registered in the San Lorenzo Valley, Piura, which is the main producing region.
The price remains between 45 and 60 soles per 45 kilo bag, which does not satisfy producers, who managed to receive up to 100 soles in previous years.
"Prices depend on the market, but we are being affected by the entry of Ecuadorian limes, preventing growers in Piura from obtaining a fair price. Greater control is necessary," stressed the president of the Board of Users of San Lorenzo Valley, David Cruz Córdova.
He said that more than 6,000 producers in the valley expect prices to recover in August so that they can obtain a return on the investment.
