Spain: Good prices in the potato's campaign plan

The price for potato reached a high peak and predictions indicate that it will stay like this when the new campaign in Salamanca starts. In fact, presently a kilo costs between 0.25 and 0.26 Euro in Andalucía, due to a drop in production which give good market conditions in mid July, when the early potato is harvested in Salamanca.

The harvested area in Salamanca dropped some 15% in the previous year, which wasn't profitable for farmers. Facing a new campaign, a production of 40 tons of short cycle potato per hectare is expected and maybe more in the areas of larger cycle potato.

So, if expectations are fulfilled, producers can forget about past campaigns, when the value for potato was between 0.03 and 0.06 Euro.
