The project promoted by Hortifruti, the firm within the supermarket chain in charge of fruit and vegetable sales, consists of 8 workshops in which 488 producers from Chimaltenango, Sacatepéquez, Suchitepéquez, Escuintla and Baja Verapaz have taken part.
"A priority for us is to support the producer while seeking excellence in the quality of the products we offer," affirms Marcio Cuevas, Walmart's Corporate Affairs Manager in Mexico and Central America.
The retail marketing firm commended the labour of 24 producers, 18 of which received the Good Agricultural Practices certification, while the remaining six obtained the one in Good Manufacturing Practices.
The program features a series of checks and controls on the drinkability of water, the microbiological quality of products and surfaces and an analysis of pesticide residues, among other things.
