Ammar Salam - Orange for Agricultural Crops

"The last month of our season was good, but the start and middle were not great"

Orange for Agricultural Crops is an Egyptian company which is part of the Ali Salam and Sons Group, with three packhouses and three production lines. The group also has a package manufacturing business. This produces the company's boxes, made from reusable plastics.

"Our main market has traditionally been the Middle East, where we are very competitive and have good brand recognition. We now have increased capacity with our three packhouses and we have expanded our markets all over the world. We are increasing our volumes each and every year," explains Ammar Salam, Managing Director at the company.

The company has an office in Europe for marketing, and a distribution company in Dubai. The main export products are oranges, mandarins, lemons, grapefruit, pomegranates, grapes and onions.

Egypt is just finishing its citrus season
"The European market this season has been very bad. The prices have been very low for most of the season, but at the end of the season there was a great demand for big sizes, which translated to good profits if you had them. The Indian market also became very good, and we had some great sales there. So, the last month of our season was good, but the start and middle were not great."

"Asia did not take a lot this season due to the logistical problems created by the conflict in the Red Sea, but by the middle of the season people had started to ship via the Cape of Good Hope."

The company sell its produce under the brands Mr Ali, Alsham, Salam and Halaa. The brands are sold to different customers in the markets, to offer exclusivity to clients. "We have a very high Class I quality and we export around 2,000 containers each season to destinations all around the world."
