Vietnam introduces new regulations on product traceability

The Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam has introduced Circular 02/2024/TT-BKHCN to govern the traceability of products and goods, effective from June 1. This regulation encompasses five chapters and 14 articles, mandating that producers, traders, and service providers record essential information for tracing product origins. Required data includes product and goods names, images, production and business unit names, and their addresses. Additionally, details on production and business phases, timings, origin tracing codes, brands, trademarks, serial numbers, shelf life, and applicable standards must be documented.

This data, linked via a code on product packaging, facilitates consumer access to expiry dates and origin details through the National Product and Goods Traceability Portal. The circular targets a wide range of stakeholders involved in product origin traceability, including service and solution providers and state management bodies. The portal, developed by the National Numbering and Barcodes Centre, is set to launch officially in the second quarter of the year.
