Westfalia fruit expands avocado trade in Kerala with local partnership

Westfalia Fruit, a leading integrated avocado farming and trading entity, initiated its Kerala operations through collaboration with Aeden Fruits International, based in Kochi. Originating from South Africa, Westfalia has been active in India for approximately two years. The import statistics for avocados in India have shown a significant increase, from 1,000 tons in 2021, doubling to 2,000 tons in 2022, and further doubling to 4,000 tons in 2023.

Projections for the current year indicate a potential rise to 8,000 tons in the first three months. Ajay T G, the General Manager for India at Westfalia Fruit, stated: "Over 50 % of avocado imports into India are by Westfalia." He also noted the growth of avocado plantations in Kerala, specifically in regions like Wayanad, Idukki, and Munnar.
