The Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA) has announced that the importation of citrus as fresh fruit is currently prohibited, with the exception of Tahiti limes from Mexico intended for processing. BAHA is actively conducting surveillance efforts to identify and prevent the illegal importation and distribution of regulated agricultural commodities, including citrus products.
BAHA emphasizes that possession of such commodities without authorization constitutes a violation of the BAHA Act, subject to strict enforcement actions and penalties as outlined in SI No. 34 of 2022. The authority also reminds the public that obtaining an import permit from BAHA is a prerequisite for the importation of products regulated by the Authority. BAHA calls for public cooperation and compliance with its regulations to maintain the country's health status and ensure food security.
