The Republic of Moldova's export of agricultural goods to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland will maintain exemptions from specific duties, following the approval by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration. This decision pertains to amendments in the Strategic Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between Moldova and the UK, initially signed in 2020. The amendments extend the temporary liberalization of Moldovan product imports into the UK market for an additional five-year period, until 31 July 2029.
Under the current agreement, import quotas are allocated for various Moldovan agricultural products, including tomatoes (272 tons), garlic (30 tons), table grapes (2,724 tons), apples (5,548 tons), cherries (204 tons), plums (2,043 tons), and grape juice (68 tons). This amendment aims to bolster domestic producers by facilitating expanded export opportunities to the UK. The initial trade liberalization measure, implemented on 31 July 2023 for one year, is set to expire in July 2024. Notably, Moldova has begun exporting apples and cherries to the UK market.
