Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has shown support for the expansion of durian exports from Thailand, which has seen a consistent growth, especially from the eastern region of the country. The export-grade durians are currently priced at an average of 160 baht per kilogram, with an ambitious goal to reach 130 billion baht (€3.25 bln) in exports. The Chani and Kanyao varieties, in particular, play a significant role in this sector. Efforts are in place to manage fruit production efficiently in 2024, including the promotion of overland export routes to broaden distribution and improve farmers' incomes.
The Department of Internal Trade reports a steady increase in the average price of export-grade durians, with smaller sizes priced at 120 baht per kilogram and non-standard sizes ranging between 100 and 110 baht per kilogram. The international market, especially China, continues to be a significant destination for Thai durian exports. Data from the Agriculture Section at the Consulate General in Guangzhou shows that in April, the average price of Thai durians in the Jiangnan fruit and vegetable wholesale market was 52.83 yuan per kilogram, marking a 9.33 percent increase from the previous year.
