Australia sees start of envy apple season

Montague, an Australian fresh produce company, has announced the availability of the envy™ apple across the nation, with distribution in supermarkets and greengrocers. This season, Montague aims to pack over 3.3 million kilograms of the envy variety, known for its shelf life and distinct taste. The company reports a rise in consumer demand, attributing it to the apple's unique attributes including its sweetness, crunch, and appearance.

Rowan Little, Chief Innovation Officer at Montague, notes improvements in fruit quality and anticipates similar fruit sizes to the previous year, highlighting the vibrant color of the current season's produce. The expansion of product range is expected to lead to quicker sales and fresher options available towards season's end.

The envy apple, a product of New Zealand, results from crossing Braeburn and Royal Gala apples, aiming to enhance eating experiences globally. It's praised for its culinary versatility, especially in desserts and as a counterpoint in spicy dishes.

Alice Zaslavsky, a Montague ambassador, recommends the envy apple for its consistency and appearance in various dishes. Montague, alongside its partners, cultivates envy apples on over 326,600 trees spread across key Australian regions, ensuring adherence to strict quality standards. The apples are available at select Woolworths, Coles, Costco, and greengrocers.
