A Brazilian agritech startup, Nougenic, is taking a big step towards transforming the agribusiness landscape with the launch of FruitAI, an app that promises to simplify the monitoring of fruit production. It was launched on May 10, 2024, FruitAI is available free of charge on the Play Store for Android smartphone users.
FruitAI is much more than just an app. Using Artificial Intelligence technology, it automates fruit counting using photos taken of plants making the process quick and efficient. In addition, the app offers counting functionality in bins, boxes, gondolas and other containers, meeting the diverse needs of producers and companies in the agricultural sector.
Leandro Luque, Nougenic 's CTO, highlights the importance of FruitAI as an accessible and effective tool for all producers, regardless of the size of their operations. "FruitAI is the simple, practical and fast AI tool that will make it as easy as possible to use technology in the field. With FruitAI, we are democratizing access to digital technology in agribusiness, providing producers with a simple and playful way to monitor their fruit production."
FruitAI's main objective is to show how much fruit will be harvested, allowing producers to predict whether they will have a more abundant or scarcer crop. Its target audience ranges from small producers to large companies in the sector, such as cooperatives, packing houses,
juice industries, insurance companies, research institutes and government agencies related to agribusiness.
Nougenic has already received international recognition for its work. The company was ranked as one of the 20 best startups of 2023 at Fruit Logistica in Berlin and one of the 20 best start-ups of 2023 and 2024 at Smart Agrifood in Córdoba and Seville, Spain.
Nougenic 's next step is to expand FruitAI even further, looking for partners interested in investing in the addition of new fruits, functionalities for vegetables, grains and statistical models for data extrapolation says Luque.
