EMEX, the Michoacán Mango Packers Association, has announced the appointment of José Ángel Crespo as its new president, taking over from Eduardo Castillejos. Crespo has been leading this organization since January 26, when he took office. He studied Public Accounting and Finance, but his entire life has been dedicated to mango packaging.
During the two-year term, Crespo has several plans. One of them is to work on a system that can make forecasts of the fruit harvest. Climate change, he said, has meant that records are sometimes not enough to know how much fruit will be available. The system, he explained, aims to include variables such as climate and flowering, because the idea is to teach it to the industry in order to make better sales projections.
Mexico is the leading exporter of fresh mango internationally. In 2022, the country exported 447,503 tons of mangos with the United States being the country's main market, taking 399,938 tons. Canada was the second largest buyer of Mexican mangos, followed by Japan, France and the United Kingdom.
