As their season has just started, more Kenyan avocados will be available on the market in the coming months. Last year in November, the Chinese and Kenyan presidents met in Shanghai, and they signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) measures to enable the export more agricultural products to China. Which means avocados from Kenya could also be exported to China in the near future. This would open a whole new market for the Kenyan avocado sellers, aside from Europe and North America, as China becomes a more attractive option in the future.

“We are looking forward to the Kenyan avocados being added to the list of approved export goods for China. When that time comes we will have a large advantage compared with the other countries exporting to China, such as Peru, Mexico or Chile, because we are much closer, so we can deliver more quickly. Furthermore, the quality of our avocados is very good this year and our production output has increased a little bit too, due to the favorable weather conditions and the expansion of the orchards,” said Chandru Akki from Cauvery Limited.
“While we wait for the Chinese market to open, our company exports 
to Europe and Dubai. We are able to set some competitive prices and that is why we are doing quite well in the market. Our season began in February and will last until October. As the supply from America slows down, the price of avocados will also stabilise in Europe. Our production process is well managed, so we are able to ship 40ft containers every week to Europe.
