Henk van der Meij, Hars & Hagebauer:

"Easter demand revives mango market after weeks of disappointing sales"

Things currently look unsure on the mango market. "Sales have been disappointing for weeks. The market is, however, stabilizing now. But, the medium-term prospects still look very uncertain," says Henk van der Meij of Hars & Hagebauer in the Netherlands. "Products like citrus and ginger are selling well at the moment. Unfortunately, exotics in general, and mangos in particular, are not."

"Prices and sales are now increasing. This is due to the Easter demand. But, the question is if this will last. Prices are more attractive, but mangos from Casma are actually worth more. The shipments from Peru are done next week. However, the Ivory Coast will follow closely. So, there are no large gaps. Enough mangos will also come from Africa. The question remains - how well will they sell?" concludes the importer.
