Evelyne Adjei Mensah of Trust in Isotopes proposes a method of traceability for fruit and vegetables

“It will no longer be possible to lie about the geographical origin or the organic certification”

Evelyne Adjei Mensah, PhD in geochemistry, came to the innovation space of medFEL 2023, the Lab'innov, in order to present Trust in Isotopes, the company she has just created. This new company offers a traceability service based on isotopic analysis. The method helps determine the geographical origin of a food product in order to guarantee its authenticity. This type of service is very much in demand today by companies that import raw materials from abroad, by producers who want to promote the French origin, as well as by consumer protection associations.

“This method can be used to analyze fruit and vegetables as well as coffee, spices or even food supplements. All you need is a database for the product in question which, if it does not yet exist, can be created in partnership with the company that requires it,” explains Evelyne.

Thanks to isotopes, it is now possible to know the geographical origin of a product using information such as the isotopic signature of the water and soil detected in the product, and to determine whether a fruit or vegetable is from organic or conventional farming. This is an undeniable asset for companies seeking to protect themselves from unfair competition and guarantee the quality of their goods.
