North Korea recently welcomed its first-ever shipment of pineapples from Xuwen county, located in Zhanjiang city, in the western part of Guangdong province. The shipment, consisting of 16 tons of fresh pineapples, successfully passed local customs inspection and quarantine.
Chen Dasong, director of Xuwen Dachang Agricultural Cooperatives, expressed optimism that this export milestone would boost the confidence of local fruit farmers to venture into international markets in the future. He also appreciated the local customs for their assistance and guidance during the export process.
Xuwen, often referred to as the "hometown of pineapples in China", is the country's largest pineapple production base. It contributes to about 43 percent of Guangdong's total pineapple output and approximately one-third of China's total.
In an effort to promote Xuwen pineapples globally, local customs have implemented several policies. These include support for local farmers to develop industries based on local conditions, transforming industrial resource advantages into export advantages, and encouraging local companies to explore the potential of pineapple cultivation. This is aimed at overcoming technological trade barriers and diversifying their export markets, according to a statement from Xiahai Customs.
