Dominica offers white potato seeds to boost local farming and reduce imports

In Dominica, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy has announced the availability of white potato seeds for the current planting season. Keian Stephenson, a Technical Officer in the Division of Agriculture, highlighted the eagerness among farmers for the commencement of this season. He advised those interested in cultivating white potatoes to engage with their extension officers and emphasized the importance of preparing farmlands for planting.

Stephenson detailed the pricing structure for the seeds, which are available at $50 for a single bag or $100 for three bags. The procurement process requires farmers to pay at the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) cashier located in Roseau and to collect the seeds from the DEXIA Multi-Purpose Pack House on Goodwill Road, with collection times scheduled from 8 AM to 1 PM, Monday through Friday.

He conveyed his best wishes to all white potato farmers for a successful planting season, underlining the initiative's aim to decrease the import bill and promote the ethos of growing and consuming local produce.
