Macfrut is less than a week away, and that is more than enough time to find out what the expectations are for the event, which will have a very special preview. On 2 May, the President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella will be in Cesena on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the trade fair to meet several local fruit and vegetable entrepreneurs. We interviewed Renzo Piraccini, President of Macfrut, ahead of the trade fair and of this unique preview.
"Well, it's not every day you get the chance to celebrate the anniversary of an event with the President of the Republic. It is a highly prestigious recognition that honours Italy's entire fruit and vegetable sector".
A preview of Macfrut is scheduled in the morning in the city centre of Cesena, with the participation of Italian fruit and vegetable producers.
"This edition - says Piraccini - is set to break records in terms of its size and quality. As for exhibitors, we already know for certain that there will be a 60,000-square-metre gross exhibition space, 35% bigger than last year. To put this into perspective, the exhibition space at Macfrut has more than tripled in the last eight years."
It's a good edition for Macfrut. Foreign exhibitors have increased by 50% compared to 2022 and account for 38% of the total number of exhibitors, as opposed to 26% last year.
The main novelties from abroad are that South America, Macfrut's international partner, will also host the 'Italian-Latin American Forum on Agri-food SMEs' that will see sector representatives from 18 Latin American countries gather in Rimini, along with as many as 120 delegates, including 75 entrepreneurs and 45 representatives of government institutions and trade associations.
In addition, Mexico will be participating for the first time, Saudi Arabia will have its own pavilion, Egypt will have a maxi stand with 22 companies, and China will have its own stand with 32 companies.
"This is the good result - says Piraccini - of a huge effort from everyone involved, from the trade fair organisers to the team of experts coordinating the exhibitions, and the exhibitors too. The unique format of Macfrut is what makes it so attractive: it is aimed at medium-sized companies seeking business opportunities and wanting to learn what's new in the industry when it comes to technology and packaging.
At Macfrut, the future of the fruit and vegetable sector is also reflected in its content, themed exhibitions and dynamic areas, which have doubled since last year. So, if you want to find out where the sector is heading you should come to Rimini from 3 to 5 May. Compared to this time last year, twice as many people have registered to participate," concluded the president.
